Chainalytics Named 2015 Green Supply Chain Award Winner

Packaging redesign enables leading consumer packaged goods client to achieve significant, measurable supply chain sustainability goals and cost savings

Atlanta, GA (November 11, 2015)Chainalytics, a global leader in supply chain consulting, analytics and market intelligence, today announced that it has been named a 2015 Green Supply Chain award winner by Supply & Demand Chain Executive (SDCE). The award recognizes providers of supply chain solutions and services who assist their customers in achieving measurable sustainability goals.

“Sustainability initiatives when done right are synonymous with efficiency gains and cost reductions,” explained Chainalytics President and CEO J. Michael Kilgore. “This simple packaging optimization initiative proves that thoughtfully engineered supply chain innovations can deliver tremendous sustainability and financial benefits beyond the traditional “green” scope.”

As a result of Chainalytics’ packaging optimization and redesign, the client—a leading global manufacturer of batteries and personal care products, including private-label men’s shaving razors—saved over $200,000 on material costs directly related to eight-count primary packaging in the first year, while simultaneously reducing secondary package size by 38 percent volume. Its larger cascading supply chain sustainability benefits also included removing 1,635,476 square feet of paper annually; reducing freight trailer usage by 24 percent through increased load density, which removed 17,604 transportation miles from the supply chain; saving 2,515 gallons of diesel and eliminated 56,333 pounds of CO2 emissions; and removing over 1500 physical pallet movements in the distribution of this single product.

Noted the client, “This was just one example of a larger collaborative effort to improve customer packaging, reduce waste, improve the supply chain and achieve cost savings. The team, particularly the Chainalytics packaging experts, brought deeper knowledge of packaging design, its potential, and supply chain impact from an outside perspective and allowed us to achieve goals that we initially thought to be difficult to obtain.”

Chainalytics helps clients achieve superior sustainability outcomes by revealing and solving inefficiencies throughout their supply chains end to end and enabling them to meet emissions and waste reduction and cost-improvement goals. Our practices enable more efficient manufacturing and distribution network design; demand and supply planning that reduces excess and expiring inventory; reverse logistics solutions that reduce waste and enhance asset recovery; transportation modeling that maximizes capacity use and reduces emissions; and packaging optimization that improves package densities, cube and costs to minimize damage and waste.
