Our model-based benchmarking approach takes a closer look at demand planning performance (all the way to the item-location level), so while we suspected it all along, now we have data which tells us that all forecasts are not created equal.  To improve forecast accuracy and bias, a company must first segment its product portfolio to better understand their unique forecasting environment.
